Important Notice: Discontinuation of Save This Life Microchip Support and Registration
February 17, 2025

Our top priority is the safety and well-being of every pet in our hospital community. As a partner in your pet’s well-being, we are sharing an important update regarding Save This Life Microchips. Effective immediately, Save This Life Microchips are no longer supported or registered by the manufacturer.

What This Means for You:

  • Existing Save This Life registrations: If your pet's microchip was registered with Save This Life, it is no longer supported, and your pet's microchip is not searchable in the database. If you do not take action, you will not be contacted if your pet becomes lost.

  • Existing registrations with companies other than Save This Life: If your pet's microchip was registered with a company other than Save This Life, you and your pet are not impacted. However, it is still recommended that you check your pet’s microchip registration to verify that it is current.

  • Save This Life Microchips are UNIVERSAL Chips and there are no quality or safety concerns with the physical chip itself.

Next Steps:

  1. Review your pet’s microchip records: This may have been done by the shelter, breeder or veterinarian. If microchip records indicate a manufacturer other than Save This Life then your registration is not impacted, however you are encouraged to ensure the registration information is up to date.

  1. Re-register Your Microchip: We strongly recommend re-registering your pet's Save This Life microchip with an alternative pet recovery service (see below). This will ensure that your pet's information is accessible in case he or she becomes lost. Fees may be incurred to re-establish service, but your pet will not need to be re-microchipped.

  1. Contact Us for Assistance: If you need help determining what type of microchip your pet has or if you have any questions, please contact us. An appointment may be needed to scan your pet’s microchip.

Recommended Microchip Registration Alternatives:

Our team at Riverside Animal Hospital is committed to supporting you through this transition. If you would like to have your pet’s microchipped checked, please call us at (401) 433-2070 to make an appointment.
